Marc McCann grabbed Portadown's winner in the 74th minute |
Marc McCann's 74th minute goal earned Portadown a 1-0 victory over Glentoran in Tuesday's Nationwide Irish Cup semi-final replay at Windsor Park. McCann's goal was set up by a pass from the superb Michael Colllins although Glens keeper Elliott Morris may feel that he should have saved the shot.
After the goal, Pat McGibbon missed a chance for Glentoran while Gavin Melaugh hit the woodwork for the Glens.
In injury-time, Portadown goalkeeper Paul Murphy denied sub Chris Morgan.
Early on, Vinny Arkins headed a chance over for Portadown but it was a very disappointing first half.
Collins was on the receiving end of a series of heavy challenges from Glentoran but he reacted in the best possible way by going on to produce a man-of-the-match display.
Nine minutes after half-time, Portadown had an escape when Paul Leeman's cross-shot was almost directed into his own net by Darren Kelly.
Just before the hour-mark, Portadown boss Ronnie McFall introduced Gary Hamilton for Kyle Neill and the Northern Ireland striker made an impact in the closing stages.
With Hamilton now on, Marc McCann shifted to the wing and it was from that position that he made his move to hit the 74th minute winner after Collins' superb pass.
Immediately after McCann's goal, Roy Coyle threw on Chris Morgan for the ineffective Parkhouse.
Two minutes after the goal, McGibbon headed over a glorious chance for Glentoran while Melaugh then hit the woodwork with a deflected shot from distance.
Gary Hamilton's poor first touch saw him waste a chance to add to Portadown's lead in the 84th minute but right at the death Chris Morgan had a great opportunity for Glentoran only for Murphy to make a superb save.
Portadown will meet Larne in the decider on 7 May.
