Wesley Boyle's late goal earned Portadown a draw at Tolka Park |
Irish Premier League side Portadown fought back twice to earn a 3-3 draw away to Shelbourne in Tuesday's Setanta Cup Group Two opener at Tolka Park. The Eircom League champions led 2-0 at half-time through goals from Ritchie Baker and Jason Byrne.
Portadown hit back in the second period with two Gary Hamilton goals bringing them level at 2-2.
Midfielder Baker restored Shelbourne's lead on 68 minutes but Wesley Boyle equalised with a stunning strike.
Shelbourne had the best of the opening exchanges with striker Glen Crowe having an effort disallowed for a push on Ports defender Darren Kelly.
Baker headed the opener past keeper Paul Murphy in the 39th minute following a free-kick on the left.
Then Jason Byrne beat Murphy with a stunning right-foot strike from the edge of the penalty area.
But Hamilton pulled one back five minutes into the second half, racing through to beat a defender and score with a rasping shot.
Then he netted a first-time shot from the edge of the box which went through the arms of keeper Steve Williams.
Baker edged the Shels 3-2 ahead with a right-foot shot which went under the body of goalkeeper Paul Murphy.
However, former Leeds player Boyle had the final say with a stunning left-foot shot from 25 yards out into the top left hand corner of the net to earn the Ports a draw.
