Kenny Shiels was sacked by Ballymena in May |
Kenny Shiels has been appointed as the new manager of Larne. The former Coleraine and Ballymena boss was interviewed for the post this week and saw off the challenge of a number of other notable candidates.
Liam Beckett, Stephen Small, Marty Tabb and Colin O'Neill were all believed to be interested in the job.
"It was a difficult choice but Kenny's experience, enthusiasm and history of youth development proved decisive," said Larne chairman Sam McCready.
"We were very impressed by the standard of the candidates but we are delighted with this appointment," added McCready.
Shiels, who replaces Jimmy McGeough, will take charge of the side for this Saturday's game against Institute.
McGeough has been in the USA for family reasons since last month and said he "fully understood" the club's need to appoint a new manager.
Sammy Smith and Jim Hagan were in temporary charge at Inver Park, but the club has failed to pick up a point from four league games.
Meanwhile Newry are expected to announce their new manager later this week, with Dermot Keely thought to be the man most likely to take up the position.
