Roy McCreadie was appointed to the Newry job in January 2004 |
Newry City manager Roy McCreadie has parted company with the club. McCreadie told BBC Sport on Monday that the decision had been made by "mutual consent" after he had held discussions with club officials.
Newry were hammered 5-1 by Portadown in Saturday's Irish League Premier opener but McCreadie said the club hadn't been a happy place "for a long time".
"There are a number of issues I haven't been happy with although they are not player-related," said McCreadie.
The Derryman claimed that he felt that he had not had the support of the club's fans since he took over in January of last year.
"I think that was due to a number of unpopular decisions including the departure of Robert Casey.
"It's never a happy time when you have to leave a club.
"I can honestly say that I tried my best but things just didn't work out."
McCreadie added that he wished Newry "all the best" for the future.
Marty Quinn, who is in charge of cash-strapped Coleraine, is being mentioned as a possible successor to McCreadie.
