Brian Russell has decided to quit Irish League football |
Irish Premier League strugglers Crusaders have been stunned by striker Brian Russell's decision to retire. The 30-year-old former Glentoran frontman told the club that Tuesday's league match away to Institute was his final appearance.
"Brian is old enough to know his own mind and if he has decided to call it a day there is not a lot more I can do about it," said manager Alan Dornan.
"He was feeling he had lost interest. We have parted on good terms."
Russell made a total of 137 appearances for the Crues in his two spells with the club, scoring 33 goals.
Dornan said he would continue to attempt to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closed.
