Andy Crawford scored three goals for Linfield

It means Crawford will team up again with City manager Roy McCreadie who was in charge when the player was at Omagh.

However, the 27-year-old forward will not be eligible in Newry's match away to Limavady on Monday.

Boss McCreadie is also awaiting clearance to play five recent signings who have joined Newry from clubs in the Republic of Ireland.

Crawford was placed on the transfer list at the weekend over what boss David Jeffrey described as a breach of club discipline.

Although details were not revealed, it is understood Crawford declined to play for Linfield's reserve side.

"I will not be drawn on the exact reason for my decision," Jeffrey told the Linfield website. "But, what I will say is that there are certain standards expected of Linfield players and we have expectations when it comes to discipline."

Crawford declined to talk about why he was put on the list at Windsor Park but said he needed a fresh challenge.

"Things did not work out at Linfield and I have to move on," said the 27-year-old.

Crawford joined Linfield in June 2004 and scored three goals for the Belfast outfit.
