Roy Coyle's Glentoran could be without an opening game |
The Irish Premier League could kick-off with just 15 clubs next weekend as Coleraine are due to go out of business before the start of the season. There has been speculation about what Irish FA chiefs will do if Coleraine's bankruptcy is confirmed on Wednesday.
Relegated Crusaders feel they should get the vacancy but First Division club Donegal Celtic are threatening legal action if that happens.
Coleraine are due to play Glentoran in the CIS League Cup on Saturday.
But, if as expected Coleraine fold, Roy Coyle's CIS holders and league champions will be without a game.
If Coleraine go out of the league and are not replaced, there will be only three clubs in Group A of the CIS - Armagh City, Institute and Glentoran.
It also means that the Premier League, which starts on 17 September, will have an odd number of clubs, leaving one team idle every week.
"We are preparing and getting the players ready to face Coleraine, and will continue to do that until told otherwise," said Glentoran boss Coyle whose side beat Letterkenny Rovers 9-0 at the Oval on Saturday.
