IFA discuss Sunday football plan
A proposal to introduce Sunday football in Northern Ireland will be discussed by the IFA's new Constitution Committee next week.

Northern Ireland is the only country in the world whose football association bans Sunday football.

Many commentators predict that the rule will be changed and there is the real prospect of Irish League games taking place on Sundays next season.

The rule was first introduced by the IFA over 60 years ago.

Last year, Irish League outfit Cliftonville said that clubs should be allowed to play on Sundays, if both clubs could agree on dates.

The north Belfast club added that if intermediate and junior matches took place on Sundays, it could boost attendances at Irish League games.

They also pointed out that thousands of players and supporters are currently involved in junior football matches which take place at the same time as senior fixtures on Saturday.

Attendances at Irish League matches have been falling for a number of years leading to financial problems for many senior clubs.
