Pat Fenlon's team will now play Croatia's Hadjuk Split |
Shelbourne have reached the second qualifying round of the Champions League thanks to the away goals rule. A goalless draw with KR Reykjavik in the second leg at Tolka Park was enough to put the Irish champions through after the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate.
Shelbourne should have won the Dublin encounter outright but had to survive some nervy moments late on as their Icelandic opponents pressurised.
Shelbourne will now play Croatian side Hadjuk Split in the next round.
Reykjavik started the brighter, with Kjartan Henry Finnbogason firing straight at Steve Williams in the first minute.
Then a quick passing move involving Finnbogason, Sigmundur Kristjansson and Solvi Davidsson resulted in Williams parrying a 20-yard drive from Davidsson.
Wes Hoolahan and Alan Moore caused plenty of problems for Shelbourne, but the home side were unable to break down Reykjavik's defence.
