Stephen Parkhouse rattles in Glentoran's opening goal |
A Darren Lockhart strike two minutes from the end gave Glentoran a deserved share of the spoils against Allianssi in an Uefa Cup tie at the Oval. Stephen Parkhouse had given the Irish League side a first-half lead with a great left-footed shot.
However, Pasi Solehmainen equalised for Allianssi six minutes after the restart and Adriano Munoz gave the visitors the lead in the 68th minute.
Glentoran are aiming to progress in Europe for the first time in 23 years.
After a nervous start, Glentoran took the game to their Finnish opponents and Parkhouse delivered a great response when his shot whistled into the net in the 22nd minute.
Winger Kevin Keegan showed some of the skill of his more famous namesake by making a run which began in his own half.
He beat four players with a superb burst of pace but eventually was pushed out to the right hand side and blocked well by his fellow number seven Mikko Simula.
Glentoran were well on top as the half progressed and despite only having returned to pre-season training just over two weeks ago they looked like a team halfway through their season.
But the second half was tough for the part-time Irish League side who had dominated throughout but clinical finishing from the Finns helped them to a draw.
As the Glens began to tire, they had a scare just before half-time when Brazilian Munoz unleashed a terrific effort which goalkeeper Elliott Morris had to turn on to the post.
Great chances
Glentoran should have heeded the warning as it took just seven minutes of the restart for Allianssi to level the scoring.
The impressive Munoz flicked the ball to Solehmainen who struck brilliant from 20 yards past Morris to silence the home crowd.
Glentoran upped the tempo and another new signing, former Manchester United defender Pat McGibbon, had two great chances to give the Glens the lead.
But they were dealt a sucker punch on 68 minutes when the impressive Munoz struck to give Allianssi the lead.
However Glentoran did not lie down, pushing the Finns all the way before eventually grabbing the equaliser when Keegan put Lockhart through for a last-gasp equaliser.
