Smith was also linked with a move to Milton Keynes Dons |
Glentoran's Northern Ireland striker Andy Smith has completed his move to Preston North End. Milton Keynes Dons were also chasing Smith but the player has opted to join the Deepdale outfit.
Smith will link up with his Northern Ireland colleague David Healy at The Championship club.
"Andy felt that a move to a First Division club was too great an opportunity to turn down," said Glentoran chief executive Tom Dick.
"It was expected that Andy would sign for Milton Keynes Dons but just hours before they came out of administration an offer from North End came in," added the Glentoran official.
The fee is undisclosed although both Preston and the Dons were prepared to match Glentoran's valuation of the player.
Smith is due to meet his new team colleagues for the first time on Tuesday when pre-season training begins.
''I knew MK Dons were interested but as soon as I heard about Preston, I had to come here,'' said Smith
''David Healy has told me about the club and I am confident that I can make the step up to the Football League.''
