Chris Morgan was on target in Glentoran's 3-0 win over Ards |
Glentoran moved up an amazing six places thanks to a comfortable three-goal success over Ards at Clandeboye. Darren Lockhart, Chris Morgan and Michael Halliday were on target in a result which lifts Roy Coyle's side up to third in the Irish Premier League.
Lockhart fired in the opener two minutes before half-time and Morgan headed number two early in the second half just as Ards were looking better.
Michael Halliday headed in number three for the Glens on 70 minutes.
This result should be a big confidence boost for the Irish Cup holders after a shaky start to the league campaign.
The Glens had just one point after their first two games but suddenly back-to-back wins over Lisburn Distillery and Ards have shot them up the Premier Division standings.
Andrew Kilmartin set Lockhart up for the opener with the former Crusaders midfielder getting between two defenders to shoot past Ards keeper Andrew Fox.
Questions may be asked of the Ards defence as Morgan was left unmarked to head Glentoran two up from a Shaun Holmes corner.
Kilmartin forced a great save from Fox and Lockhart curled a free-kick just wide before Morgan set up Halliday for Glentoran's third.
Glentoran are now on seven points from four matches, ahead of Loughgall and Ballymena United on goal difference.
