Derry City 1-0 Drogheda
Mark Farren of Derry City
Mark Farren scored only goal in the second minute
A second minute goal from Mark Farren gave Derry City the spoils in a scrappy Eircom League game against Drogheda at the Brandywell on Thursday night.

Farren was on the end of a corner from Cillian Brennan to head home at the back post.

It was match of few chances and Farren's early strike proved decisive in the end.

Farren had the game's only other gilt-edged chance just before half-time but his free header sailed wide.

The Inishowen striker was recalled to the side after showing he was back to full fitness at the weekend by netting a hat-trick for Derry City Under-21s.

The second half really only livened up when Derry had two half-chances in the final quarter with Alan Murphy and Gary Beckett watching shots stopped by Tony O'Dowd.

Derry's goalkeeper David Forde had to look sharp right at the end when he turned a great shot by Mark Rooney around the post.

Defeat sees Drogheda lose touch with leaders Shelbourne at the top of the league with the Candystripes leapfrogging over Longford Town into sixth place.
