Newry Town 2-1 Crusaders
Robert Casey's injury-time winner earned Newry a deserved first league win of the season.
Alan Dornan's Crusaders side led for most of the match |
The home team, without a goal after their two opening games, seemed set for more misery when Jackie Kerr put Crusaders ahead in the 15th minute with a great 18-yard shot.
However the impressive Barry Meehan levelled for Newry in the 75th minute and Casey's late strike sealed the outcome.
After Kerr's lead goal for Crusaders, Newry debutant Lamine Camara and Steven Ferguson both hit the opposition woodwork.
Meehan also went close as the home side dominated the remainder of the second half.
The home team continued to press after the break and Damien Curran hit a shot just wide after producing a fine run.
Crusaders defender Jeff Spiers then appeared fortunate to only pick up a yellow card when he aimed a kick at the lively Camara.
Newry's pressure was rewarded in the 75th minute when Meehan hammered in a fine equaliser after great work by Ferguson.
A minute later, Crusaders were reduced to 10 players after Gary Chisholm had been given his second caution.
In the 81st minute, Damien Curran was inches wide with a great effort for Newry.
The home team continued to press for a winner but it seemed certain that they would have to settle for a point until Casey's last-ditch intervention.
