Mickey Keenan will play for Distillery against Newry Town |
Veteran goalkeeper Mickey Keenan will add another chapter to his long Irish League career when he makes his debut for Lisburn Distillery - at the age of 47.
Keenan played his first Irish League game back in the 1960s for his hometown club Newry Town.
But he made his name as an evergreen performer for Portadown, winning League and Irish Cup medals.
Keenan has been signed as cover for Lisburn Distillery's first choice keeper Philip Matthews.
But he will make his debut traight away as Matthews is unavailable for Saturday's CIS League Cup opener against Newry.
Keenan created history last season when, aged 46, he became the oldest player to appear in the Uefa Champions' League.
"I did not think I would play at this level again," admitted Keenan.
"I am glad to be part of things at Distillery even though it is only for a short while."
