Ruud van Nistelrooy was dropped for the match against Moldova

The former Ibrox boss watched the Manchester United marksman net twice in his side's 3-0 Champions League win over Rangers at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

But that performance did not change his mind on who he believes is his number one striker.

Advocaat is set to stick with Barcelona's Patrick Kluivert, a player he feels cannot operate effectively with Van Nistelrooy.

"In principle I have said Van Nistelrooy and Kluivert will not play together against Scotland and I still feel that way, Advocaat told the Daily Record.

"My visit to Manchester did not change that."

Van Nistelrooy begs to face Scots

Van Nistelrooy lost his place in the side when Advocaat dropped him for the final Euro 2004 qualifier against Moldova after the striker reacted badly when he was substituted in the previous defeat to the Czech Republic.

The Dutch have an abundance of quality forwards and Ajax youngster Rafael Van der Vaart is likely to be paired with Kluivert.

Advocaat can also call upon Bayern Munich's Roy McKaay and former Celtic hit-man Pierre van Hooijdonk.

AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf is in line for a comeback for the Dutch having been left out since the summer when he and Advocaat had a fall-out.

Following a meeting with the player in Italy, Advocaat confirmed: "We had to send out a list of 26 candidates and, yes, Seedorf was one of the names on the list."

The first leg of the play-off is at Hampden on 15 November with the return match being played in Amsterdam four days later.
