Deisler missed out on the 2002 World Cup with a knee injury |
Germany are facing an injury crisis ahead of their Euro 2004 qualifier against Scotland at the Westfalen Stadium on Wednesday. Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Deisler became the latest withdrawal on Tuesday after he pulled a thigh muscle in training.
Germany coach Rudi Voller will also be without midfielder Jens Jeremies, who has failed to recover from a knee injury, while defender Carsten Ramelow (calf) and Oliver Neuville (hip) are both doubtful.
In addition to the string of injuries, Voller's side has come in for some severe criticism in the German media following their 0-0 draw against Iceland on Saturday.
But Scotland defender Christian Dailly has played down suggestions of a crisis in the German camp
"Germany are supposed to be having a big crisis, but they haven't lost a game yet," said Dailly.
"They are sitting with two home games left and, if they win those, they qualify comfortably. "I've had some great conversations with Berti about the pressure that Germans can be under."
Dailly also paid tribute to Scotland coach Berti Vogts, who has turned the team into possible Euro 2004 qualifiers after a slow start.
"He is totally committed to his football. He is so passionate about Scotland. You wouldn't believe it the way he speaks in the dressing-room," said Dailly.
"Before the 1-1 draw with Germany at Hampden, he was probably more relaxed than usual. He was just totally confident we would get a result.
"He has absolute respect from the players. There were times when players were played out of position, but all footballers should be able to deal with things like that.
"He has taken whatever criticism there has been and just got on with it."
