Roy Keane made a winning return with the Republic of Ireland |
Liam Miller produced a man-of-the-match performance against Romania and then hailed Roy Keane, the man many believe he will replace at Old Trafford. Miller, who is leaving Celtic to join Manchester United, was outstanding in his first home start for the Irish.
The match saw former skipper Keane return to the Republic side after two years in international exile.
"It was great to play with Roy Keane. He is a world class player and one we need in the side," said Miller.
Manager Brian Kerr, on the losing side just once in 15 matches in charge, was pleased with Keane's return and the welcome he received from the Lansdowne Road fans.
"I thought Roy played very well. He set the tone with his tackling and the accuracy of his passing," said Kerr.
"He showed why we wanted him back in the team.
"Roy deserved a good reception. People have not forgotten the great contribution he has made to Irish football."
Matt Holland, whose 84th-minute volley clinched the Republic's 1-0 win, also welcomed Keane's return.
"With Roy in the side we have a better chance of qualifying for the next World Cup and we want to play in the big tournaments," said Holland.
