Irish lose defensive duo
Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr
Republic boss Brian Kerr has already called up Richard Dunne

Captain Kenny Cunningham and Manchester United defender John O'Shea are both out of the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly against Norway in Dublin.

Birmingham defender Cunningham has a groin injury while O'Shea has a knee strain and both returned to their clubs on Tuesday morning.

At the moment, manager Kerr has no plans to call up any further players with Manchester City's Richard Dunne having been drafted in on Monday.

Andy O'Brien, Gary Kelly and Gary Doherty had already been ruled out of the Irish squad through injury.

There have also been doubts over Matt Holland (knee) and Stephen Carr (back).

"Richard Dunne is doing well at the moment. He's got back into the Manchester City team in the last few weeks as have the other lads who have been out,'' said Kerr.

''The only player who hasn't got back into the first team is Mark Kinsella. And with the injuries, I think we may need another defender.''

Dunne was originally left out of the panel for the Euro 2004 qualifiers with Georgia and Albania but was again recalled after an injury crisis.
