| Marks out of 10 for England after their World Cup qualifier against Austria in Vienna. England David James - 4: Lost the plot completely after the hour mark. Got away with racing needlessly out of his area to chase a long ball but was horrified to see an Andreas Ivanschitz shot go through his body for the equaliser. Gary Neville - 6: Some timely interceptions at the back stifled the early home threat, and he had to be on his toes for the remainder of the match as the Austrians threatened down his flank. Ledley King - 7: Cannot be faulted for either of the goals, and had looked solid enough until Austria found an unlikely way back into the game. John Terry - 7: Looked unflappable early on and was on hand to clear a Mario Haas shot off the line. There was little even he could do as his goalkeeper self-destructed behind him. Ashley Cole - 7: Linked up well with Bridge on the left and used the overlap to good effect. Defensively he dominated his flank and on the few occasions he found himself in trouble his pace always got him out of it. David Beckham - 5: Played a big part in England's clever opener from a close-range indirect free-kick but faded badly and could not step up a gear when Austria took the upper hand after an hour. Wayne Bridge - 6: Solid enough in tandem with Cole, but on too many occasions going forward he failed to make possession count - and often found himself going backwards. Steven Gerrard - 8 (STAR MAN):A stunning goal capped an impressive display before he was substituted late on. Was full of running and also showed he is capable of providing a killer pass. Frank Lampard - 6: Found it difficult to reassert his earlier authority in midfield when James' clanger turned the game on his head. Worked hard but not his usual energetic self. Alan Smith - 7: Lively throughout. Happy to drop deep and neat and tidy wherever he picked up the ball, but will rue his failure to beat Alex Manninger when he was clean through. Michael Owen - 6: Always looked dangerous thanks to his pace and awareness but his failure to take several good chances eventually cost England dear as Austria hit back. SubstitutesJermain Defoe (replaced Alan Smith, 75 mins) - 7: Came close to snatching victory when his long-range shot grazed the post with Manninger well beaten. Jamie Carragher (replaced Steven Gerrard, 83 mins) - 6: A much-needed steadying influence when he came on in the latter stages. Joe Cole (replaced Wayne Bridge, 85 mins) - 5: Had little impact as England were forced to hold on for a draw.
