Dundee United boss Craig Levein believes it would be disrespectful to his club to speculate on succeeding George Burley as Scotland manager.
Levein is the bookies' favourite to replace Burley, who was sacked on Monday after 22 months in charge.
"I don't want to talk about something that might or might not happen," the 45-year-old told BBC Scotland.
"I get paid by Dundee United to do a job here. For me to make comments on speculation is really disrespectful."
However, despite Levein's reluctance to discuss the possibility of becoming Scotland's next manager, he did admit the job's appeal.
"I think it's an honour for anyone who's patriotic to lead their country. That's evident," said Levein, who is contracted to Dundee United until 2012.

"But I spoke to the chairman at the beginning of the week and told him I wouldn't speak about it. What's the point? There isn't one.
"Supporters coming here paying good money and they don't want my head filled with that stuff, they want me to concentrate on what I'm doing at Dundee United."
The former Hearts, Leicester, Raith Rovers and Cowdenbeath manager said he was enjoying life in Tayside, but was open about his ambitions to manage at a higher level.
"I love it here, and I've said that so many times in the past," he said.
"I'm an ambitious man and I've said that if the right job came up then that's something I would consider.
"But there's been no situation that's arisen to make me feel I need to explain myself to anybody.
"I've got a job to do here at Dundee United."
United chairman Stephen Thompson said on Monday that he was desperate to retain his manager's services.
"I suppose it's a compliment," said Thompson when asked about the speculation surrounding Levein.
"But he's contracted to our club for a long period of time and I certainly want him to stay here for another three, five, 10 years.
"Obviously, we've had a conversation and that's between him and I.
"He's an ambitious man, I know that," added Thompson. "He's my manager at the moment and he wants to do the best for Dundee United.
"You never want to hold anyone back. If they want to be somewhere else, you should never try and persuade them otherwise because it doesn't work."
Thompson said the club have covered substantial ground in the last three years to give Levein reasons to remain at Tannadice.
"We totally changed the youth set-up, we've committed to a long-term training facility and I know he enjoys the day-to-day involvement with players," he said.
"So, let's get on with the job and if someone approaches the club then we will discuss it further."
