United States striker Charlie Davies has left hospital nearly a month after being involved in a fatal car accident.
He was one of three people in the car when it crashed near Washington on 13 October, killing 22-year-old passenger Ashley Roberta.
Davies, who plays for French side Sochaux, broke bones in his right leg and suffered a lacerated bladder.
The 23-year-old is likely to miss the World Cup after being told it could take him up to 12 months to recover.
Davies has scored four goals in 17 appearances for the US, who will be appearing at their sixth consecutive World Cup finals next year.
Dr James DeBritz of Washington Hospital Center said Davies would need extensive physical therapy to recover from his injuries, and would do rehabilitation work with national team staff.
