Kyle and Wallace have not been selected for the trip to Japan
Lee Wallace and Kevin Kyle have been backed by their club managers to have a future at international level.
The Hearts left-back and Kilmarnock forward were not picked for Scotland's friendly trip to Japan on 10 October.
"He just has to keep banging away and scoring the goals," said Jim Jefferies on Kyle's omission.
And Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo said: "If Lee keeps up his performance, attitude and lifestyle, he can be a permanent member of the Scotland squad."
A former Scotland Under-21 international, Wallace has been repeatedly overlooked by Scotland boss George Burley, who has handed a first call-up to Celtic's Danny Fox and not selected another specialist left-back.
But Laszlo believes the 22-year-old can make the step up.
"He brings a lot of qualities: he is not only young, he has the speed, he has the heading, he has the body, he has a very good cross and a very good shot. He also scores goals from this position," said the Tynecastle manager.
"Especially as he is young, he can be in this position a long-term solution."
Asked if Wallace was his country's best left-back, Laszlo said: "I can't tell you if he is the best, but he is one of the best and a most promising player for the future in this position for Scotland."
Kilmarnock captain Kyle was called up for the first time in five years for the recent World Cup qualifying double-header against Macedonia and Netherlands then had to withdraw to have minor knee surgery.
"I'm surprised and I think Kevin is a bit surprised because he was in the last squad and only had to pull out for knee surgery," said Jefferies.
"I don't pick the team, but we thought he might have a decent chance.
"They could come back for him if there are call-offs. I don't know if he is on any reserve list, but it won't affect him, he will take it in his stride.
"He saw getting in to the Scotland squad as a bonus, so it won't affect him.
"It will make him more determined to prove that he could still do it."
