Celtic left-back Danny Fox hopes to to make his Scotland debut in next month's friendly in Japan.
The Cheshire-born player is eligible through his Scottish grandfather, but was unable to play in the final two World Cup qualifiers due to red tape.
"I couldn't be called up against Macedonia and Holland as the paperwork hasn't gone through," said Fox.
"The next match after that is in Japan and, if I'm still fit and playing for Celtic, I'd love to be selected."
Fox joined Celtic from Coventry City in July and he has been first choice for the Glasgow club at left-back since.
In March 2008 he played his only match for England under-21s against Poland.
Scotland have agreed to provide the opposition for the friendly in Yokohama on 10 October as the Japanese look to prepare for the World Cup by playing against more European opposition.
Although eager to make his Scotland bow the 23-year-old says it might have been for the best that his international clearance has been held up for the Group 9 run-in.
"To be fair, those are such big games that it might not have been wise for George Burley to have unsettled the squad by bringing new players in anyway."
In the last two qualifiers against Norway and Macedonia Preston's Callum Davidson has started at left-back, ending a seven-year absence from the international set-up.
But the 33-year-old was force to leave Saturday's match against Macedonia in the first half with a hamstring injury.
Despite performing well, his replacement Steven Whittaker is more naturally suited to playing in the right full-back position.
