Craig Gordon believes Arsenal striker Eduardo's two-match ban for diving against Celtic was "worth it".
And the Sunderland keeper questioned if there would be a similar furore if a Scotland player did the same to earn a World Cup play-off spot.
"For a goalkeeper, it is infuriating when you don't touch someone and they have won a penalty," said Gordon.
"But if a Scotland player does it and we end up getting to the play-offs then do we still feel as badly about it?"
Uefa handed Eduardo a two-game suspension for "deceiving the referee" when he fell to the ground to win a penalty in last week's Champions League play-off round second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
"He's won a penalty, and himself and his club a place in the group stages of the Champions League," added Gordon, who is preparing for Saturday's World Cup qualifying clash with Macedonia.
"That is worth £16m and he has probably got close to £100,000 in bonuses, so you can see what it means to players and why someone would do that, to win a game by any means possible.
"It's not nice but I don't see how we can stamp it out of the game.
"He got a two-match ban. Is it worth it for getting to the group stages where they will possibly progress from that? It probably is worth it to guarantee your team is in that competition.
"I think it's something that goes on.
"You are going to get some decisions for and against you until we find some way of stamping it out."
