Pearce was named England Under-21 coach in July 2007

Fabio Capello is keen for England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce to remain as part of his backroom staff after his contract runs out next summer.

"I hope Stuart will stay with me," said England coach Capello. "I'm very happy with him and I hope he will be with me next season."

The 46-year-old Pearce has guided the England Under-21s to next summer's European Championship in Sweden.

"We'll probably get to the summer and take it from there," said Pearce.

Under Pearce the England Under-21 side has lost just once - the defeat by Holland after a marathon penalty shoot-out in the semi-final of the 2007 Euros.
