Wark was capped 29 times for Scotland during his long career

Former Scotland midfielder John Wark says George Burley will not walk away from the national manager's job if results go against him.

Wark, who was capped 29 times in his Scotland career, also said they can pick up a win when they meet Norway at Hampden in their World Cup qualifier.

"George is not a quitter, said Wark. "I know some fans are getting on his back.

"But I think everybody is behind him now and, if we get in about Norway, I can see us getting a result."

Wark spoke out about the scheduling of Scotland's opening Group Nine match against Macedonia, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Burley's side, but praised the response of the squad in the following match against Iceland.

"Everybody was doom and gloom after Macedonia, but they shouldn't have played that game in that heat - they should have played it on a Wednesday night or another time," said Wark.

"But George went and got a good result against Iceland."

Wark, who played alongside Burley during their time at Ipswich, praised the efforts of his former-colleague's management team and insisted that, if Scotland work together, they can get a result against the Norwegians.

"George and Terry Butcher are both winners. They know what to expect from Scotland, but they're not quitters - they want to win and they'll get the lads going," said Wark.

"We're going to miss Kenny Miller, but we can't depend too much on James McFadden.

"I just hope a few of the other boys chip in and get the crowd going, although you don't need to get the crowd behind you - the Tartan Army are fantastic.

"I think Scotland have a good chance. I think they might sneak a 1-0."
