Paul Parry's unexpected international retirement quite simply disappoints me.

It's not like he was a regular in the side, either, so I don't see the sense of it - being an international footballer could have enhanced his career

In years gone by people were quite happy to be squad members for their country.

Nowadays, they don't like travelling if they're not in the first team, even though they're only playing at Championship level.

Parry could have been an important squad member, but he has no reason to feel aggrieved at his treatment by Wales.

There are quality players ahead of him in the wide midfield, players like Joe Ledley and Gareth Bale.

Up front was Parry's chance, and perhaps he was disappointed that Ched Evans and Sam Vokes came on against Azerbaijan ahead of him.

The big difference with players these days is money, that situation has changed everything in the game.

Players are so comfortably financially that they have a completely different outlook on life and move in different circles.

The Professional Footballers' Association need to consider what it means to a 28-year-old to have that sort of money and to think about what players will be doing when they finish the game.

So my disappointment over the Parry affair is obvious, but, ultimately, I don't think John Toshack will be losing too much sleep over it.
