Evans, with nine goals in eight Under-21 games and the winner on his senior Wales debut in Iceland last season, had been waiting for his City chance but would not have anticipated it coming in such circumstances.
Wales manager John Toshack has high hopes for the St Asaph youngster, and has included him in a star-studded squad for Wednesday's vital Uefa Under-21 qualifying clash with Romania at the Racecourse Ground.
"You need regular first-team football as a player and I am beginning to get that, having also had a few chances in the Uefa Cup games," said Evans.
"Now I am looking forward to helping Wales qualify for the Under-21 finals, it helps having such a good relationship with Sam Vokes up front.
"We have a good partnership and we keep in touch off the field. The Under-21 team is so strong and full of confidence and we always feel we are going to do well.
"There's a great team spirit with a lot of laughing in training, and the number of boys with Premier clubs shows the talent that is coming through.
"This is a massive game and with it live on TV, everyone will be watching and these are the games that you have to impress in as a player."
