Burley would like to see his Scotland side take on England
Scotland manager George Burley says the SFA looked at the possibility of organising a friendly with England for later this year.
However, the match cannot go ahead as the English already have a game against Germany planned for 19 November.
"Hopefully in the future we'll be able to play England again and I'm sure that would intrigue everybody," said Burley.
The SFA this week decided against inviting Argentina to Hampden in November after a consulting fans.
Ticket prices for the match would most likely have been higher than for a competitive game due to the Argentine's appearance fee.
Burley added: "Unfortunately with the time of year, the cost and everything involved, it wasn't going to be quite right. Hopefully maybe one day it will be.
It's important to get top class opposition if you can
Scotland manager George Burley
"One of the highlights of my Scotland was against Argentina in 1979. Diego Maradona played, he was 17 at the time.
"To play against one of the best teams in the world is something you never forget."
Burley says Scotland will now look at inviting a European nation to play at Hampden.
"It's important to get top class opposition if you can and that's something we'll be looking for in November," Burley added.
"You want to play against the best and I'm sure that fans want to see the best possible opposition.
Ferguson will miss Scotland's opening World Cup qualifiers
Meanwhile, Burley believes he has enough quality in the squad to compensate for the loss of captain Barry Ferguson in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Macedonia, Iceland and Norway.
The Rangers skipper has this week undergone surgery on an ankle injury and will be out for up to four months.
"We've got options in midfield," said Burley.
"We've got five or six top quality midfield players so there is a replacement.
"I'll be trying to take in as many games as possible and I've got a lot of scouts and assistants there as well so the door's open and there's still a lot of places up for grabs.
"Every season's different, each player's got to prove that they're in-form and that they're good enough to get into the squad."
