Argentina's Lionel Messi may face Scotland later this year
SFA chief executive Gordon Smith will decide early next week whether Scotland's proposed friendly with Argentina will go ahead.
Smith has been gauging interest from fans on the proposed November match, with ticket prices likely to be higher than a normal friendly international.
"It's been pretty mixed in terms of response," Smith told BBC Scotland.
"We're very positive and we'll decide by the beginning of next week whether we're going to take this game on."
The SFA have not named ticket prices for the friendly, which would take place on Wednesday 19 November, and Smith says the cost would not be as high as has been speculated.
"Some people are nominating a price but we haven't given out the price of the tickets yet," he added.
"The price would either be equivalent to a real competitive game, which is not what we normally do for friendly matches, or maybe just slightly above that.
"A lot of people are saying they're willing to pay 40 and some are saying they would pay anything. Others are saying they wouldn't want to pay that much so it is a mixture.
"On average it would be a lot lower than what has been put out there."
One other consideration for Smith is how many tickets are likely to be sold for such a match.
"You can make a decision on how much would come in and pay the expenses based on a full stadium but you don't know whether you're going to get a full stadium," he said
"We would hope we would get a full stadium for a game like that. The Republic of Ireland filled a stadium of 70,000 for a friendly with Brazil and paid bigger amounts than we're talking about in terms of individual tickets."
"The Argentines are a very popular side and they're wanted all around the world for matches.
"It's not a question of whether we want to play Argentina, that's already our decision. We're speaking with Argentina and we would like to play Argentina on that date in November.
"I personally would like to see us playing Argentina and George Burley would like to see the game go ahead so we'll just wait and see how the decision turns out."
