Fabio Capello will be pleased. A win is a win and the fact that England got better as the game progressed will be a comfort as well.
Jermaine Jenas, centre, celebrates his goal with Bentley and Joe Cole
The biggest plus of the night was the performance of David Bentley, who really took his chance.
We knew before he came into the game that he is a good player with great ability but we wondered if he could step it up at this level. The answer, judging by this performance, is an emphatic yes.
He looked so good on the ball and his passing, long and short, was tremendous. He created chance after chance for England.
Other than him, Joe Cole did well and Peter Crouch showed what he offers England when he came on as well. England look a better side with him in there, for me.
England did not always pass too well but in the second half they looked so much more comfortable.
At the end of the day, having spent just a few days with the players, Capello will just be pleased to win.

The fact is that Fabio Capello took over a squad really low on confidence and to get going with a win is the perfect start.
There were quite a few positives. We created a lot and the likes of Wayne Rooney, David Bentley and Joe Cole really played well for us.
The passing could be improved upon, especially on the stuff that was played in the first half, but at least we are trying to play in the right way.
The negative was conceding again, and Rio Ferdinand will feel he could've done better in his part in the equaliser. But we have to remember Capello has only been with these players a few days.
There is plenty to work on, of course, but I view this as a positive start.
And that's just what this is - the start.

First of all, with all due respect to them, we have to remember it is just Switzerland.
They are a decent side but they are not world beaters, and first half they caused us a couple of problems.
We had to be patient and that was one of the things I liked about what we did - the crowd were on our back to an extent but we kept our heads and didn't panic.
The highlights for me, aside from the result, were Joe Cole and David Bentley who both had cracking games.
In Capello, England have a manager who is a winner and so to get the start we have is crucial. All in all, it's happy days.

It's obviously a good day for Capello, but he won't be getting carried away.
We know that he is a perfectionist and there is plenty of stuff for him to work on ahead of his first competitive game against Andorra in September.
But there are more positives than negatives in this performance and, after recent matches and displays, that's a good thing.
Overall, far from perfect, but a decent performance and good win for Capello and England.
Mark Lawrenson
He has stamped his authority on this squad from day one, you feel, and he also had the media fooled because I don't think anyone predicted his starting line-up. It all adds to the aura of the man.
The training has been different, the personnel was different and the style of football was also different, but this is just the first small step on a long, long road.
The positive signs are that, in Joe Cole, David Bentley, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, England look like they have players who can play across the park.
That'll be important to Capello, I see him playing quite a fluid style and formation in future.
Overall, far from perfect, but a decent performance and good win for Capello and England.

Everybody says how successful Capello is but it is at club level but this is his first experience of international football.
Capello's change of system in the second half suited the players
All of a sudden he will have been talking to his players and then that's it, he's not going to see them in a while.
The thing that I would be very interested in is to see what formation he plays against France in the next friendly. Is it something that he is knocking about in his mind?
Is he looking at formations, assessing the players in these friendlies to see if they're the ones he really wants to play?
We are only going to know that after two or three games.

There was no movement and players did not look comfortable in the positions they were playing in the first half.
Also in the first half no-one supported Rooney who, let's be honest, doesn't like standing down the middle and likes to get involved. Everybody appreciates what he does but he probably does too much work.
I think we look better with Peter Crouch and possibly Rooney off him. We created more chances in the second half and it was the introduction of Crouch that changed it.
Overall, it was a hit and miss performance.
If we were playing decent opposition they would have scored a few goals. There is a lot of work to be done.
Chris Waddle
There's not a lot we can change. You have got John Terry to come back and a couple more are injured but on the whole it's basically the same squad we have had for the last couple of years
It's about getting the system right where we can affect games.
