Lippi & Capello have emerged as leading contenders for England job |
Italian managers Marcello Lippi and Fabio Capello have not yet been contacted by the Football Association about the England job. Lippi told BBC Sport: "There has been no contact at all and I don't want to say anything else."
BBC Sport understands there have been no talks between Capello and the FA either and that reports of a planned meeting later this week are untrue.
The FA has, however, spoken to Jose Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes.
Lippi, Capello and Mourinho have emerged as the three leading contenders for the England job.
Lippi, 59, won the World Cup with Italy last summer and also boasts league and Champions League titles from his time with Juventus.
Capello, 61, has won titles in both Spain and Italy and has already expressed his interest in the England job.
However, both men speak only rudimentary English.
On Sunday, FA director of communications, Adrian Bevington, told BBC Sport: "The only way you find out where someone is on the England job is when you actually ask them a direct question.
"You can't work on the basis of what is said through the media. People often have a different opinion of what they say publicly than what they say privately."
