 Nigel Worthington's future with Northern Ireland is still not settled |
Irish FA chief executive Howard Wells says there is no need to rush contract talks with Nigel Worthington over the Northern Ireland manager's job. Worthington's short-term contract ended at the end of the Euro 2008 qualifiers in November.
"We are not under pressure, nor is Nigel. It takes as long as it takes as far as I am concerned," said Wells.
"We are talking to only Nigel and that will continue to be the case until we have resolved things between us."
It is believed the IFA is keen to secure the services of the former Norwich City manager on a two-year contract.
Worthington took over when Lawrie Sanchez resigned earlier this year.
Although Northern Ireland failed to qualify for the Euro 2008 finals, they did finish a creditable third in their group.
It is understood Worthington has impressed his employers and that a new deal will eventually be agreed.
If it is, Worthington's first task will involve sorting out dates for the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Northern Ireland have been drawn in the same group as the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and San Marino.
