Tickets like these from the 2006 World Cup will be free in 2010 |
Fifa says 120,000 free tickets for the 2010 World Cup will be distributed to the South African public. General secretary Jerome Valcke said that "the cost of the free tickets will be met by our commercial partners".
Valcke added that four categories of ticket prices will be in place for the 64 games with the cheapest category only available to South Africans.
Tickets in category four will be as low as 10 for first round-matches and will rise to 73 for the final.
Organisers have made the move to ensure that South Africans on low incomes will be able to afford to attend World Cup matches.

"We are working with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to ensure that the delivery of these tickets will be done in the best possible way," added Valcke.
LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan said that the organisers would work on measures to ensure that the category four tickets are not sold on.
"We made it very clear that this World Cup has been embraced and supported by the poor and that is why we have created this," he said.
"If people sit there with England or Belgium shirts on, it would be obvious that something has gone wrong."
The most expensive tickets during the course of the tournament will be for the final in Johannesburg on 11 July where the four prices will be 73, 195, 290 and 440.
The cheapest tickets for overseas fans will start at 40.
Organisers have also said that matches will begin at either 1100 GMT, 1400 GMT or 1800 GMT.
The qualifying draw for the 2010 World Cup will take place in Durban on Sunday.
