Walcott went close to winning the match for England Under-21s |
England Under-21s moved a step closer to next year's play-offs for the 2009 European Championship by coming from behind to draw away in Portugal. Stuart Pearce's injury-hit side went behind when Craig Gardner fouled Adelino Vieirinha, the winger picking himself up to score from the spot.
Theo Walcott fired wide before Adam Johnson restored parity, volleying home from Joe Mattock's long throw.
Walcott forced a fine save from Ricardo Batista as England finished stronger.
The draw leaves England six points clear of Portugal at the top of Group Three, with Pearce's side having two games remaining and Portugal three.
