David Healy has scored 13 goals in the Euro 2008 qualifiers |
David Healy insisted Northern Ireland could still qualify for the Euro 2008 finals after scoring a dramatic winner against Denmark in Belfast. Northern Ireland need to beat Spain on Wednesday and hope that Latvia can win away to Sweden on the same night.
"It was another phenomenal night at Windsor Park. We have been written off in just about every game but we can still do it," said hero Healy.
"We are never beaten. That is for us, I am just proud to wear this jersey."
Healy's strike meant that, with 13 goals, he became the record scorer in European Championship qualifying, overtaking Davor Suker.
Warren Feeney, who scored Northern Ireland equaliser, also focused on the team's character and self-belief.
He told BBC Sport: "It was exciting. We were disappointed when we went 1-0 down but we know we have fighting spirit in the camp.
"I always knew David was going to make the headlines. But through the team the players have got the spirit."
Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington thought the wet conditions had suited his side, with the match only going ahead on a water-logged pitch after a late inspection.
"I thought the conditions suited us perfectly. A bit of rain, a bit of wind, with us performing - Windsor Park is a hell of place to come," said the NI boss.
