Ivan Sproule scored a hat-trick for Hibs against Rangers in 2005 |
Northern Ireland winger Ivan Sproule may quit international football for a year after failing to play in the last two Euro 2008 qualifiers. The 26-year-old, who moved to Bristol City from Hibernian in June, will talk with NI boss Nigel Worthington before making a decision.
"The last two results have been defeats and I thought I should have featured in one of those games," said Sproule.
"I have to decide whether I want to take a break for 12 months or so."
Sproule, who is also used as a striker, is concerned that being away with Northern Ireland but not playing could have a negative impact on his club career.
His wife is pregnant and this is another factor in the former Irish League player's thinking.
"I've been involved in every squad since the campaign started and not playing has been frustrating," added Sproule.
"I was away for 10 days with Northern Ireland and that meant not seeing my wife for all that time.
"She's expecting our first child and that's become a factor in this."
Sproule made his Northern Ireland debut in the famous 1-0 victory over England at Windsor Park in September 2005.
He has scored one goal, against Estonia in a friendly last year, in his eight appearances.
