Parry is thought to be ruled out for the foreseeable future |
Paul Parry's withdrawal from the Wales squad for next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Germany and Slovakia has been described as "silly". The Cardiff City winger cited personal reasons, but former Bluebirds captain and Wales international Jason Perry says he will regret the decision.
"He has cut off his nose to spite his face," Perry told BBC Sport Wales.
"For him to do that is surprising, I think it is a silly decision and one that he will regret in the future."
BBC Sport Wales understands that Parry does not want to be considered for international duty for the foreseeable future.

But Perry, who won his only Welsh cap in 1994, said the 27-year-old is letting his country down.
"For somebody at his age playing at a club that's doing well in the Championship, showing the form that he's shown recently, I'm very surprised because you want to play at the highest possible standard," he said.
"You want to play at international level against the best players in the world and show everybody you're capable.
"I saw him play against Queens Park Rangers in a centre forward role and he was outstanding. He showed everybody what a good footballer he is.
"He then went back to his favoured wide position against Leyton Orient and again he was outstanding.
"He will now not be able to pull it off on the international stage."
 | Parry has shut the door on Toshack |
Perry said he was angry at all the players who have turned their backs on Wales.
"You want to see your country perform well and I just want to see every person that is eligible to play for Wales put themselves forward for their country," he said.
"I do feel - and I'm not just thinking about Parry but [Robbie] Savage, too - they've let themselves down and they've let their country down, and it's something they're going to have to live with.
"[Wales manager] John Toshack gave Parry another chance.
"He must have heard what Parry said after the Queens Park Rangers game, which surprised me by saying 'I don't think I'll be selected'.
But John's gone 'don't worry about that, you've played well, welcome back in'. Parry has turned his back on that, he has shut the door on Toshack."
