N Ireland fans have been allocated extra tickets for the Latvia game |
Northern Ireland have been allocated an extra 1,000 tickets for their Euro 2008 qualifier in Latvia on 8 September. The Irish FA has now been given 1,800 tickets for the game in Riga - more than double the initial allocation.
The IFA, after consulting with a NI supporters group, approached the Latvia FA and after discussions the ticket increase was secured.
"We are optimistic that we will be able to meet the demand from supporters," said IFA official William Campbell.
Gary McAllister, from the Amalgamation of Official Northern Ireland Supporters' Clubs, is delighted with the ticket increase.
He said: "It was vitally important that extra tickets were made available for this match, to ensure that Northern Ireland fans were not forced to look to the black market for tickets or potentially locked outside the stadium after travelling such a great distance to support the team.
"Following on from the successful, collective approach to the game in Liechtenstein in March, the IFA, the PSNI and the Amalgamation have delivered a result for the fans in terms of away ticketing.
"This is very good news for the fans travelling to Riga."
