It's job done as far as England are concerned.

The game was comfortable for them and now it's time for the boys to go home and have a rest from football so that they can then pick things up again in the September games.

Their problem stems from the fact they didn't have the best of starts to this qualifying campaign, but they've handled it.

Nobody has come to Estonia in the group stages and beaten them 3-0, so England can go home with the job done and get some rest.

It would surprise me if David Beckham was left out of the remaining England games now. Three out of the four goals in the last two games have been down to Beckham creating them so Steve McClaren will want him.

Could Beckham be regretting his move to LA Galaxy? I don't know and it doesn't matter because that's going to happen so it has to be dealt with.

Under Fifa regulations, LA have to allow him to come and play for England so he will be in the squad. Of that there is no doubt. There is some travel involved there, though - make no mistake about that.

I think Russia's draw with Croatia is very good news. It puts England right back in it.

The game on 17 October away to Russia is going to be crucial. We have to beat Russia at home - there's no doubt about that in my mind.

It could be ironic that the thing that may yet cost England is that draw at home to Macedonia.

McClaren's 10 or 11 months as England manager have been hard. He will now understand what many people don't - the major difference between being a club manager and being an international manager.

And there is a major difference in how you handle players, how you talk to the press, what is expected of you.

You have to learn that. It's all right saying, "OK, I was with Sven-Goran Eriksson" - because even so, you were not the manager.

Steve will have learnt a great deal. He will go into the summer now at least in a more relaxed manner, which will be good for him personally.

Having said that, is he going to go across now and watch the U21s play? The England manager's job is never-ending - it's always with you, even through the summer.

What he needs to do is take a break and a step back himself.

At least we've ended the season with a lift about ourselves.

We know this game wasn't particularly exciting. It was a job that had to be done and it's been done.

All of us now have a reason to be a little bit more comfortable about England's situation.
