McFadden injury blow for Scotland
Scotland forward James McFadden
McFadden has scored 10 goals in 31 Scotland appearances
Scotland forward James McFadden has been forced to withdraw from the forthcoming matches against Austria and the Faroe Islands.

The 24-year-old missed Scotland's last matches against Georgia and Italy.

However, McFadden returned from a broken metatarsal to feature for Everton at the end of the season.

But Everton physio Matt Connery told the club website: "James has been experiencing discomfort in his left foot in the area that he fractured."

Scotland travel to Vienna for a friendly with Austria on 30 May before their Euro 2008 qualifying match in Toftir on 6 June.

McFadden is yet to feature under Alex McLeish and the Scotland manager will have to wait until next season to add to the player's 31 caps.

"Current tests have proved inconclusive and further tests will be required in two to three weeks time," added Connery.

"As such, we have taken the decision to withdraw the player from the Scotland squad."
