Boyce upset at Sanchez departure
Irish FA president Jim Boyce
Jim Boyce was disappointed to lose manager Lawrie Sanchez
IFA president Jim Boyce revealed that Lawrie Sanchez quit as Northern Ireland boss after an ultimatum from Fulham.

"He told me that he tried to persuade Fulham he could have carried out both jobs at least until the end of the European Championship," said Boyce.

"But he was told that was now not on. He either had to resign immediately as manager of Northern Ireland or not become the manager of Fulham.

"Sanchez has done a tremendous job for us but has suddenly been taken away."

Boyce said Irish FA officials would take stock before looking at possible candidates.

Given their rise in the Fifa rankings, Boyce said they would be hoping for some high-profile candidates.

A string of former Northern Ireland internationals like Jim Magilton, Iain Dowie and Nigel Worthington could be candidates.

But it is believed the IFA might look for someone with experience of international management.
