Hargreaves has yet to score for England

Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves remains bullish over England's Euro 2008 qualifying hopes.

Saturday's draw with Israel leaves England, who play Andorra next, three points behind second-placed Russia and five adrift of group leaders Croatia.

Hargreaves said: "Are we underdogs to qualify? Not at all.

"England is never an underdog but we need to perform better and win games. We've already beaten Andorra 5-0 but we need a great result for ourselves."

Hargreaves played in that 5-0 victory and the away win over Macedonia before breaking his leg, returning to the England team for the first time in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Israel.

The Bayern Munich midfielder admitted the mood in the England camp after the Israel draw was very subdued.

"After Saturday, the manager was down, everyone was down, the fans were down. We expected more from ourselves. We expected three points.

"It was a very quiet dressing room. We were disappointed we didn't win against Israel and we're going to have to do a better job in the future.

"Technically we're a better side than Israel but we need just to show that sort of thing, prove it and win games.

"Hopefully we can score a few goals and get our confidence back up."

England have scored just one goal in their last five games, while Wayne Rooney has gone 33 months since his last competitive goal against Croatia during Euro 2004.

"The most important thing is to get Wayne Rooney on the ball along with people like Aaron Lennon and Steven Gerrard because they will change the game," said Hargreaves, ahead of Wednesday's game with Andorra in Barcelona.

"At times we didn't look like scoring and we need to get those players into positions where they can create chances.

"But it's very difficult when you play away from home and the opposition defend with just 10 players behind the ball.
