Gary Mackay (left) wants Garry O'Connor to get in touch with Walter Smith |
Garry O'Connor's agent has urged the striker to contact Scotland manager Walter Smith as soon as possible in a bid to save his international career. Gary Mackay called the Scotland boss when O'Connor failed to show for a squad meeting ahead of the Euro 2008 qualifier in Ukraine.
"It is about explaining his reasons and seeing if Walter accepts those reasons," Mackay told the Scottish Sun.
"He is back in Scotland if he wants to do that to repair the damage."
O'Connor had come on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over France at Hampden, but after his non appearance, was dumped from the squad which travelled to Kiev.

"Garry has to realise he is almost 24. He is a young man now and the only person who can correct this is Garry O'Connor," Mackay added.
"He has to contact the international manager, explain the reasons he did not make the international gathering and see how Walter responds to that.
"It is not Walter Smith's decision and it is not up to him to chase Garry.
"I can only advise Garry and I have told him the way he has to go. It is up to him to make that move."
Former Hibs striker O'Connor, who now plies his trade with Lokomotiv Mosocow, is back in Scotland recovering from a hernia operation.
