Steve Staunton saw a much-improved Republic display |
Despite seeing a hugely improved performance, Republic of Ireland boss Steve Staunton was unhappy his side did not beat the Czech Republic. "We are disappointed not to have three points tonight," said Staunton after the 1-1 draw at Lansdowne Road.
"I think our chances and all-round display deserved the win. I have to say the lads were magnificent and the crowd really got behind us.
"It has been a long hard week and I am not giving up in the group yet."
Scorer Kevin Kilbane, who had to be substituted after getting a poke in the eye during the celebrations, said it was vital they picked themselves up after the defeat in Cyprus.
"We let ourselves down as well as the manager and supporters," said Kilbane.
"It is just disappointing we could not hold on after getting in front.
"It has been a tough few days. After Cyprus, we knew we had to get back and put in a performance."
