McAllister is training with the Scotland squad in Kiev |
Former Scotland captain Gary McAllister would seriously consider a return to management in the New Year. McAllister is with Scotland in Ukraine as a guest of manager Walter Smith and has been assisting with coaching.
And he told BBC Sport: "It has been brilliant to work with the lads and it gets the juices going again."
McAllister quit his player-manager post at Coventry in January 2004 to devote time to his ill wife Denise, who died in March of this year.
"It's been a privilege (to work with Scotland) and I had no hesitation in taking up Walter's offer." he continued.
"I took a warm-up session and it's great to back in amongst it.
"There's a great spirit in the squad and it reminds me of the set-up I played in under Craig Brown.
"Walter has them very well organised, they play a disciplined system and are very difficult to beat."
The former Motherwell, Leicester, Leeds, Liverpool and Coventry player won 57 caps for Scotland.
And the MBE, who lives in the Midlands area with his two children, is giving serious thought to making a full-time return.
"My thinking is that I'd like to get Christmas and New Year out of the way and then turn my attention to getting back into the game," he said.
