Mascherano and Tevez moved to West Ham on deadline day |
Argentina coach Alfio Basile has no doubt that Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez will flourish in the Premiership. The West Ham new boys played in their country's defeat by Brazil at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium before being substituted on Sunday.
"They are great players and they will get to know the Premier League very well," Basile said after the 3-0 loss.
"It's one of the best leagues in the world and players who play in the best leagues grow."
Midfielder Mascherano played the first half, while striker Tevez was withdrawn after 66 minutes of action, with Argentina trailing by a single goal.
Next up for the former Corinthians duo, both 22, is an expected Premiership debut against Aston Villa at Upton Park on Sunday 10 September.
Despite conceding three goals, with Elano scoring in each half and Kaka adding a late third, new coach Basile shrugged off the scoreline and promised to make improvements.
"This is just a beginning," he said, having stepped into the role for a second time following Jose Pekerman's post-World Cup departure.
"We have a very good team but we only had a little time together - about 48 hours - and that showed.
"Once I have had the team together for some time and worked with them every day it will be different."
It was the second time in a row that Argentina have lost by three goals to their great rivals, having lost 4-1 in the final of the 2005 Confederations Cup.
