Smith was satisfied with this side's first-half display |
Scotland manager Walter Smith was happy to see his strikers get among the goals in the 6-0 win over the Faroe Islands. "It was a pleasing day's work," Smith told BBC Radio Scotland. "And strikers getting goals is good for confidence.
"A 50,000 crowd for our opening game was fantastic and above expectation and maybe added to the pressure.
"The edge came off the game after the break but the first-half was excellent against a country that has caused problems for bigger teams than us."
Kris Boyd scored twice, while Kenny Miller, James McFadden and Garry O'Connor all found the net after Darren Fletcher's early opener.
"We were expected to win and we did, so that is pleasing," added Smith. "It gives us something to build on for the more difficult games to come."
Scotland travel to Lithuania on Wednesday, and Smith knows that he can expect a sterner test in Kaunas.
"It's a place where Scotland have not had an easy ride in recent times," he said.
"But our confidence is at a good level and I'm sure we can go there and get the result we are looking for."

Smith revealed that Lee McCulloch and Graeme Murty are unlikely to recover from injury in time to be considered for the Lithuania match.
But Manchester United midfielder Fletcher, who was very influential before his withdrawal at half-time, told BBC Sport that he should be fit.
"It's a long-standing problem with nerves in my back and hamstring," he said. "Coming off was just a precaution.
"Everyone expected us to get a big victory so it was a bit of a no-win situation and I'm glad to get this one out of the way.
"Lithuania will be totally different. They are a good passing team and we will be under pressure for spells.
"But we fancy our chances because we've turned in a few good performances away from home."
