Roy Millar's side look certain to qualify for the next stage |
Northern Ireland came from behind to beat Liechtenstein 4-1 in Wednesday's European Under-21 Championship qualifier first leg in Vaduz. The home side took a surprise seventh minute lead after keeper Michael McGovern allowed a Jeff Hughes' backpass to trickle under his feet.
Sammy Morrow levelled on 33 minutes with the first of his two goals.
Brian Gilfilan's goal put the Irish ahead and further goals followed from Morrow and Dungannon's David Scullion.
Gilfilan's lead goal came on 58 minutes after Derry City defender Mark McChrystal had failed to connect with Scullion's cross.
Morrow scored his second goal of the night with a low shot while Scullion rounded off his lively individual performance with the best goal of the game late on.
The game, which extended the Northern Ireland team's unbeaten run to 10 matches, was played in front of 600 spectators at the Rheinpark stadium.
Roy Millar's side will take their 4-1 advantage into the second leg at Windsor Park on 10 May.
The winners of the tie will go through to the group stages where they will face Romania (away) and Germany (home).
